What is Aadhaar?
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to every Indian resident. It is linked to your biometric data (fingerprints and iris scan) and demographic information (name, date of birth, address).
Aadhaar is now required for almost every government service in India โ from opening a bank account and getting a SIM card, to applying for government schemes like PM Kisan, Ayushman Bharat, and MGNREGA. It is your most important identity document.
